Sorry to see that the Pavlicek quiz is going to be on hiatus for the foreseeable future.  I was actually about to change the link in the sidebar so that it would take you right to the quiz and presto, no more quiz.  Oh well.  Thanks Richard.

I played 34 boards with Jeff today.  Here's a quick lead problem.  3rd all white.

K4 / KQJT82 / 542 / 92

Jeff opened 2 Spades.  Righty bid 3 Clubs.  I took a mild view and raised to 3 Spades.  Lefty doubled (responsive.)  Jeff passed and Righty bid 4 Spades (self-alerted as 'slam interest clubs?')  I passed and Lefty bid 5 Clubs.  Float.

2S - 3C - 3S - X
P - 4S - P - 5C Float

What do you lead?

I'm usually pretty good about leading partner's suit.  Something about the 4 Spade bid talked me into the 'surprise' King of Hearts lead, though.  Sucker!

Only the King of Spades lead beats the hand.  You set up a Spade ruff while partner still has the Ace of trumps.

J3 / A976 / QJ87 / 853 Dummy

AT3 / - / AT63 / KQJT74 Declarer

-400 was lose 5 and change.  Only 1 of the 8 pairs defending Clubs held Declarer to 10 tricks.  Should have been 2.
