Seems like I've been spending more time on Bridge Base Forums this week than on my own blog.  Aside from a few who deliberately distort their opponents' statements and arguments and a few who are just batty wingnut clowns, the debate is pretty interesting over there.

I was interested to read that an employee of a popular Internet Poker site hacked into the site and was able to see his opponents' hole cards.  The story is here and there's a youtube video below.

Another sad capitulation by the Democrats this week.  I don't know the wisdom of bringing up a resolution condemning a genocide that occurred almost 100 years ago in a distant land, but be smart enough to discuss it at length in caucus beforehand, and then be gutsy enough to back your decision and pass the freaking thing.  Spineless ... I had high hopes for Nancy Pelosi, but as a leader (you know, those people who get people to follow them) she has been a complete failure.

Red Sox - Indians has been a good series so far.  Hopefully Boston can engineer another huge comeback, but I won't feel too bad if Kenny Lofton gets a shot at a title.

Joe Torre turned down $5 million to dress up in a baseball uniform and watch Yankees games for another year.  I'll take that job.  Pick me!  I thought the offer was too generous, $1.5 million more than any other manager in baseball is making and it even included huge bonuses for making it to the ALCS and World Series.  See ya, Joe!

I ran into a very interesting brain-teaser on Bridge Base Forums, the "Two envelopes problem".  You've got 2 identical envelopes and you know that one has twice as much money in it as the other one.  You can pick one or the other.  You pick one and there's $100 in it.  Now you're given the option of switching.  Does it make sense to switch?

Of course, the paradox is that on the one hand you'd think 'Well, it was totally random which envelope I chose and consequently totally random on whether or not to switch.'  On the other hand you'd think 'If I switch and I'm right, I get $100 more.  If I switch and I'm wrong, I lose $50.  Therefore since each option is equally likely, I should switch.'
