Here's my worst hand from my set on Saturday with Peter.
All White 4th
KQ / KJ873 / K2 / KQ74
2 Passes to Righty who opens 1 Spade.
Jeff's a big fan of overcalls at the 2 level promising a 6 card suit. But to me, this is a 2 Heart bid. The suit's not good enough to double and then bid it freely and the Spade holding isn't very no-trumpy.
Lefty bid 3 Spades and Righty bid 4.
Yeah, this is probably down 1 but pard sounds broke and I see myself getting endplayed a lot. I passed.
Now I get to guess what to lead. Literally anything could be right. But since pard is probably broke, playing him for the Club Jack seems like perhaps the most likely success scenario. I led the Club King.
J943 / T54 / Q9843 / 3 Dummy (LHO)
KQ / KJ873 / K2 / KQ74
On the Club lead, partner played the 5 (udca, std suit pref) and Declarer won the Ace. I was hoping that was going to be followed by 2 Club ruffs and 2 losing Spade hooks but Declarer played the Deuce of Spades from hand. You win and partner follows with the 6 of Spades.
Now what?

I figured that if pard has the Spade Ace, I'm likely to score a Diamond and a Heart to go with our 2 trumps for down 1. But if Declarer's made some weird discovery play in Spades with ATxxx, I should make it as easy as possible for Declarer to try the Spade finesse now by playing a Club (that's also why I won the King.)
Unfortunately, a Club is the only play that lets the contract through. Declarer wasn't making 'some weird discovery play' in Spades and I should have just made the 'obvious' play of continuing Spades to get off lead. Declarer pitched a Heart from Dummy on my low Club switch and lost only 1 Heart and 2 Spades (he had stiff A of Diamonds.) Ugh.
Peter could have helped a lot at trick 1 by playing the Ten of Clubs (either discouraging or Hearts, take your pick) but I should still get it right.
