This hand came up last Friday on Bridgebase with Jeff against random (screened) BBO opps.

You pick up in 4th at favorable:

T3 / KQJ874 / KQ4 / 42

The auction goes 3 Spades, pass, hesitation 4 Spades to you:

I know I'd definitely THINK about bidding.  The opps could be robbing us blind.  Give me 1-6-3-3 shape and I think it's worth 5 Hearts at favorable if 4 Spades is smooth.  Luckily, I didn't hold the hand, my LHO did.

My hand was:

5 / AT6 / AJ92 / AKQT6

I had a bit of a problem over pard's 3 Spades, hence the break in tempo.  3NT could be right, but I think 4 Spades is right much more often.  I didn't weigh in the added benefit that 4 Spades might entice LHO to do something foolish.  Needless to say, I knew what to do when 5 Hearts was passed around to me.

Jeff guessed wrong on opening lead and we missed out on 1400, but 1100 was good for 12 IMPs and change.
