Time for my weekly non-bridge post.

I watched the Republican debate on Fox this week.  Ron Paul is still my guy.  He's the only honest human being in the bunch.  He dared to say that the people who flew the planes into the twin towers on 9/11 might have had a reason for doing what they did and that it might be worth considering what that reason might have been.  The horror!  Rudy Giuliani immediately jumped all over him.  I loathe Giuliani.  Always have.  He's such a weasel.  I used to love McCain, but he deliberately derailed the Straight Talk Express and I disembarked.  Plus, he's like 100 years old (actually, he's younger than Ron Paul, though you'd never know it to look at them.)

I watched the Painted Veil on DVD.  Great movie.  Something about it really bothered me, but it's semi-spoilerish, so I'll stick it in MORE>>.  Don't click on MORE>> unless you've seen it or don't intend to or don't care.

Senators lost game 4, so they're up 3-1 now.  I thought I'd finally get a chance to watch them tomorrow (they're on NBC, woo hoo!), but I'm playing with Adam.  I'll record it, but watching recorded sporting events is like watching old vugraphs.

I don't get Tony Blair.  Nobody has propped up this bunch of criminals (the Bush administration) more than this guy.  One of the brightest, most thoughtful, most articulate guys I've ever seen.  Enabling a gang of hoodlums to wreak havoc.  Destroyed his own reputation and legacy in the process.  Sad.

Could someone 'splain to me why Alberto Gonzales is still the Attorney General?  You fire prosecutors because they won't prosecute Democrats who haven't broken the law or because they will prosecute Republicans who have and you are guilty of obstruction of justice.  Do not pass go, do not collect $200.  He thinks torture's ok.  He thinks spying on Americans without a warrant is okay.  No, sorry, that's illegal.  The guy running Justice shouldn't be a two-bit lackey for the president.  I thought Ashcroft was bad, but when this clown went to Ashcroft's hospital room to get him to sign off on spying on Americans without a warrant, Ashcroft sent him packing.  Sure, Ashcroft was a few clowns short of a circus, but at least he had a passing respect for the constitution.

Until next Friday ...

So the deal with the Painted Veil is this doctor goes into central China in the '20's to deal with a Cholera epidemic.  The movie treats Cholera as virtually always fatal.  It turns out that with treatment (rehydration) the survival rate is over 99% unless you're old/sick or an infant.  Not a pleasant ailment, but not a death sentence, either.  Still, the movie was great aside from this one glaring inaccuracy.
