So after I've finished telling Adam how much I hate playing 5 of a minor ...  Last board of the event, I pick up:

Q2 / A7 / 862 / T97542

Adam opens 1 Club in first, all white, Righty's in for a spade, I bid 3 Clubs, Lefty bids 3 Spades, Adam bids 4 Clubs, Righty bids 4 Spades and it's up to me.

One more for the road or no?

I thought and I thought until my thinker was sore.  But I couldn't resist.  I've been in similar situations before, after telling inexperienced partners 'No partner, don't lead unsupported aces, bad partner!' and then the 'exception' comes up.  Here I am, with no singletons, considering a save ('only Jesus saves, as Barry Crane would say'.)  I grinned from ear to ear as I pulled 5 Clubs out of the bidding box and put it on the table.

5 Clubs was routinely down 2 (they didn't double) and -100 was worth half of the matchpoints.

Unfortunately, 4 Spades was off one spade, 2 hearts and a diamond.

20 trumps (we had 11 clubs, they had 9 spades) and only 18 tricks.

Sigh.

Partner held:

K9 / QT42 / AT / QJ863

Lefty:

JT7 / J98 / KQJ754 / K

Righty:

A86543 / K653 / 93 / A
