Nightmare on Systemdrop Street

Finishing my discussion of the nightmare set with Jeff from earlier this week ...

Immediately following the 6NT hand I picked up this one in first all white:

AT / K9632 / AJ / AQT7

I opened 1 Heart, Jeff bid 1 Spade and I bid 2NT.

Jeff, who loves science, got me to agree to play transfers here.  So when he bid 3 Hearts, I bid 3 Spades and was pleased when he passed (hey, maybe this system actually works!)  Unfortunately, Jeff had forgotten that he had gotten me to agree to play transfers here as his hand was:

K9832 / J84 / 83 / 963

That's been my experience with most of this infrequent science.  For every board that it works perfectly and the angels sing and your teammates are in awe of your awesome awesomeness, there are 2 or 3 boards where someone drops system and you end up with egg all over your faces.  Not a good tradeoff, unless you're playing TONS of bridge with someone and you both have mental energy to spare.
